Men’s soccer
Bethany University’s men’s soccer team had a 2-1 win over Simpson University on Nov. 6, with goals from John Ballisty and Joel Pelton.
Bethany will have a make-up game against Pacific Union at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, to finish the season.
The team finished in fourth place with a 7-4 record in conference, 8-6 overall, wrapping up one of the Bruins’ most successful seasons.
Women’s soccer
The women’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Simpson on Nov. 6, the only goal from senior Amanda Anderson.
The team finished fifth in the Cal Pac with a 2-8 record.
Volleyball
The Lady Bruins defeated Simpson in three games Nov. 5 before losing to U.C. Santa Cruz in four games Nov. 6.
The Bruins qualified for the single-elimination Cal Pac tournament and, as the third seed, fell to fourth-seeded Menlo in three games on Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the Redwood Auditorium.
The season is over for the Bruins, who finished 7-5 in conference, 14-12 overall.
Cross country
The cross country team attended the Cal Pac Conference Championships at Mills College in Oakland on Nov. 5.
Freshman Wayne Smith and Brad Arkens finished in the top 10 and will move on to the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 20.
Men’s basketball
The men’s basketball team traveled to Southern California last week, where it lost to Hope International University, 67-51, and Cal Baptist University, 67-50. The team then lost at home to The Masters College, 88-63, on Nov. 6.
The team will play at Sacramento State on Tuesday, Nov. 16, and then take part in the Midland Empire Insurance Classic in Oregon on Nov. 19 and 20, when they will face Oregon Institute of Technology and Southern Oregon.
Conference play begins in January.
Women’s basketball
An 83-59 loss to Biola on Nov. 5 was followed by a loss to San Diego Christian College 77-63 on Nov. 6.
The team will travel to the Masters College on Friday and then go to Westmont College on Saturday, Nov.13.
Conference play begins Jan. 6.

The team tied Menlo College, 1-1, after two overtime periods Oct. 26. Matheus Barbosa was the only one to score.
Bethany is fourth in the California Pacific Conference with a 5-3 record and one game left. They will host Simpson University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Skypark.
Women’s soccer
The women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to Menlo on Oct. 26. The team is in fifth place out of six teams with a 2-6 record.
The Bruins will host Simpson University in the final game of the season at 11 a.m. Saturday at Skypark.
Volleyball
The volleyball team lost to William Jessup University in five games Oct. 30 for a 6-5 record in the Cal Pac, 13-10 overall. The team is fourth out of seven teams in the conference with two matches remaining.
The Bruins will play their last conference game at home at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, against Simpson. Their last game is at crosstown rival U.C. Santa Cruz at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Cross country
The cross country team participated in pre-conference time trials Oct. 29 as preparation for the California Pacific Conference Championship Meet on Friday. The race will be at Mills College.
Men’s basketball
The men’s basketball team lost to Pacifica, 89-87, on Oct. 30. Conference play begins in January.
The Bruins’ next game is the homecoming game against Masters College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with royalty to be announced during halftime.
Women’s basketball
The women’s team lost 72-53 to Southern Oregon on Oct. 30.
The team will next play at 3 p.m. Friday against Biola University, followed by the homecoming game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against San Diego Christian College. Conference play begins Jan. 6.

It is no real surprise the Bethany University women’s basketball team is excited for a new season and the chance to leave last season as a distant memory: The Bruins finished last season 4-20 amid a flurry of bad luck.
“Last year, we got hit with the perfect storm,” head coach Jason Foster said. “We had four season-ending injuries before the second week in January, which left us with a young and inexperienced team.”
Foster is hopeful, though, that he’ll see the youth and inexperience of last season develop into maturity this year. With six returning players and nine new faces, the Bruins will be a mixture of young talent and some college experience.
Freshman Ayana MacShate, junior Alyssa Wright and sophomore Rachael Walters make up the early-season starting lineup, along with returning starters senior Christie O’Daniels and junior Rachel Estabrook.
Within the group of starters, there are a good shooters, some strong inside play and the promise of scoring from many different players, Foster said. Leading the team as captains are O’Daniels, senior Stephanie Caldwell, Estabrook and Walters.
“The new members of the group have bought into it, and the attitude, drive and desire of this group is completely different,” Foster said. “There is a new central focus to this team, and each member has identified and owned it. This new attitude will become the biggest impact on this team this year
Though the team suffered a loss in their home opener last week against Southern Oregon, the Bruins worked diligently to keep their opponents on their toes.
“As a group, we have some really high goals and expectations, and they have the work ethic to accomplish them,” Foster said.
Foster returns as head coach for the fourth year, along with assistant coach Rosie Brown who began coaching last year. Also assisting the team this year is Imhotet-Ari Amen Ra. Both Brown and Amen Ra played basketball for Bethany in previous years.
Leading into Bethany’s homecoming weekend, the women’s team will host Biola University at 3 p.m. Friday Nov. 5, followed by the homecoming game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 against San Diego Christian College. The men’s basketball game will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, and homecoming royalty will be announced during halftime of that game.

Men’s soccer
Joel Pelton scored all three goals in the 3-0 win over Cal State Maritime on Oct. 20. Pelton was again the only one to score in the 4-1 loss to Holy Names on Oct. 23. He is third in the nation in scoring with 16.
The men’s team has a 5-5 record in conference, 7-5 overall, good for third in the California Pacific Conference. Three games remain in conference play.
The men’s soccer team will play Friday, Oct. 29, at Pacific Union College, followed by a home game against William Jessup at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3.
Women’s soccer
The women’s soccer team lost, 5-0, to first place Holy Names on Oct. 23.
The Bruins are in fifth place of six teams and have lost their six most recent games. Two games remain in conference play before playoffs.
Their next game will be Wednesday at William Jessup University.
Women’s volleyball
Volleyball fell to first place Holy Names in three games on Oct. 22 before a home match the following day, when the team beat Menlo in three.
Bethany (12-9, 5-4 Cal Pac) is fourth of seven teams in the conference with four matches remaining.
The Bruins played at Pacific Union on Thursday, Oct. 28, and will travel to William Jessup on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Cross country
